The Switch is a few days away from being released, and Nintendo has decided to reveal a bunch of upcoming indie games to tantalize gamers who aren’t sure whether there’ll be anything good to play. I think I speak for a lot of people my age when I say that the games shown in this presentation speak very loudly.
I have personally done several edits of my book, fully revising and touching up the phrasing, structure, trains of thought, etc. etc. I’ve had several people read the book and give me feedback. But now that I’ve hired an actual self-publishing company and finalized the monetary details, I’ve been able to hire an actual editor to polish the book for a final manuscript.
The great news is: we are finally actually working on editing the document and making the notes!
At some point, the author is unable to see the flaws in their own work. If I were to try to edit the book on my own at this point, I’d probably rewrite everything because I’m just bored of the same way I’ve written it and read it dozens of times. But a dedicated and highly particular editor who wants to be proud to put their name on the product is a great way to really pinpoint what can be done better.
This is very exciting to me because for a long time I’ve been waiting in limbo for various things to be finalized related to publishing options, negotiation, contract writing, mail delivery (yes that still happens) and other aggravating details I don’t normally have to worry about with my happy little website.
So although it’s not as great as hearing about the book being ready to buy, it is the final phase before I hand it off to the publishing company and let them do their magic.
If you’d like to stay even more up to date with the book’s progress in the coming months, you can chip in to the Patreon and have insider updates.
Nintendo has revealed more information about the Switch hardware along with some games. It’s a subversive and risky powerplay, and I’m extremely interested in how this will turn out. In this article I’ll give the pros, cons, and most importantly, the possibilities of what the Switch represents to the gaming industry, which means I’ll also be talking about the current sad state of the console industry itself.
The results of the recent poll have pretty much blown me away. I’ve never felt so much appreciation from the fans and community, and it has supercharged me to work way harder already. Knowing that so many of you are anticipating the book’s release is awesome enough, but even more crazy is the initial interest expressed in setting up a Patreon page! Some of you even insisted on doing this, so I’ve done it. I promise that if this thing starts to get supported by even a few people, I’m going to be a lot more active on this site. Your readership has always kept me feeling indebted already, and although I haven’t been updating the site nearly as much as I would have liked, it was because I was writing a big ass book that beats anything I’ve published before.
In the important transition phase between writing, publishing, and working on Part Two of the book, I can’t think of a more encouraging thing than fans becoming patrons. Your feedback and help here is invaluable. I’ve never done something like this before. Here’s to a New Year with all the potential we could ask for…
You’ll get more details and updates there. It will serve as a more direct line of communication to supporters, while this site will remain the place where I publish finished stuff for your enjoyment.
