Threedogg’s excellent trailer analysis

See, this is why I didn’t bother analyzing the trailer much — I knew Threedogg would do a much better job.  He connects all the plot points together, including Eli being Liquid Snake, Miller being the Beret Man who tortures Emmerich, and more.

Read on, folks!  And make sure to follow him on Twitter @ThreedoggGaming and over at his Twitch channel.

Full MGSV: Phantom Pain E3 2013 trailer and comments

Before I comment on the trailer contents, let me say this game is going to be cross-platform and cross-generational, as expected.  I have to say it looks gorgeous in a meaningful way.  The dust storm, spotlights, animation, and aesthetics feel like they go hand-in-hand with actual gameplay considerations, and this is just one of many convincing environments we’ll have the privilege to explore.

“This is Snake”: Kojima picks Kiefer Sutherland to replace David Hayter

kiefer

Kiefer Sutherland is the new voice of Big Boss.

This announcement comes from the pre-E3 Konami online press event which has just finished streaming a few hours ago.  Kojima said that the choice of Sutherland came from a friend of his, and it appears that Kiefer was happy to oblige.  This means David Hayter wasn’t lying about not being contacted by Konami (and negates the clever theory that it was “Moby Dick Studios” that contacted him instead) and that Kojima really is using Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as a fresh start for the franchise.

With the utmost respect to David Hayter, I love this.  I’ve always been a fan of Kiefer Sutherland from back in Young Guns, and there are a few things I expect to see different thanks to the new voice for Snake:

Follow me on Twitter to find out #groundzeroestaboo

blog_gz_tabooEver since Kojima announced that Ground Zeroes is going to be so taboo that it might not get released, I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out what kind of scandalous subject matter it could possibly contain.

I’ve come up with some pretty good theories, and I’m going to be sharing them on the the site’s official Twitter account, so follow @meta_gear or search for #groundzeroestaboo if you want to stay up to date with this explosive Metal Gear theory in the making!  How many of my guesses will be true?  Probably half of them.

I am excited.  Here’s some info from Joystiq.

So what else is new about Ground Zeroes? It’s a “prologue” to Metal Gear Solid 5, says Hideo Kojima. The open world of Ground Zeroes is literally the entire world – a helicopter can be called to help during missions or ferry Snake in and out of mission levels. Moreover, you can customize the music that the helicopter plays when it arrives to help you (“Flight of the Valkyries” played during the demo we were shown today – Kojima says the louder the song is, the more of a chance of you getting caught, so maybe Slayer wouldn’t be the best choice).
