A long, long time ago, SnakeSoup administrator Ravi Singh approached me for collaborating on an epic Metal Gear flash animation revolving around the very first game in the series, which most Metal Gear fans don’t even realize exists. I agreed.
Ravi’s script is hilarious and nicely plays off the original game’s silliness. We both saw it as a fun experiment and a worthy goal for the 25th Anniversary of the Metal Gear series, so I did my best. I got as far as I could, but it was too much work for a mere mortal such as myself — especially because I kept obsessing over getting the animation to look good. Then, my computer’s hard drive broke when I tried defragmenting it, so that I couldn’t even look at the file in Windows Explorer without Windows crashing to desktop. Add to that the challenge of editing everything I’d animated to fit with the audio file — yes, embarrassingly, I animated everything you see there before I got the audio file it would be matched to! — and I just plain gave up, with the hope that somebody else could pick up the baton. I’m very excited at the promise of that happening!
Not to brag, but I think my animation style kicks ass. I’m not going to tell you to watch the video three times, like it, save it to your favorites (because why wouldn’t you?) and do me a personal favor of spreading this shit around to every person you know. But if you don’t do those things, guess what: you’re not very nice. Thanks to Ravi for putting this together and best of luck with Part 2!
